‘It’s cracking, it’s cracking …’ exclaimed Father Chick while flapping his wings up and down in the air excitedly.
Mother Chick looked down at the nest and saw one of her eggs cracking. At first it was only a small crack then slowly, gradually the crack lines began to deepen.
“Our first born is arriving!” Father Chick shouted and paced about excitedly while the other animals in the barn looked on.
Then it happened … the egg shell cracked to reveal two curious-looking eyes. The eyes strained to adjust to the lighting and to the surroundings. Then it struggled to shake off the shell that was covering him.
“Be Careful!” warned Mother Chick, but it was too late. The egg rolled out from the nest onto the hard ground. “My Baby!” Father Chick and Mother Chick rushed over to the egg. Crack! Crack! The egg shell cracked revealing a dizzy-looking new born chick. ‘Chirp? Chirp?” it says.
“It’s a son! Aww… look at him, doesn’t he look like me?” Cooed Father Chick. “Oh, he’s just as hyperactive” said Father Goat, standing beside Father Chick. “Look at his cheeky face, he’s sooo cuteee…”said Mother Goat. “Let’s give him a name.” said Mother Chick while looking down at her first-born with a cheeky look.
“Let’s call him Cheeky!” the adults chorused together. “Chirp?!” said the confused Cheeky Chick, still feeling giddy from all the action around him.
He looked around curiously, eager to start a new life in the new and foreign-looking surroundings. |
